Rijeka – Split in 7 days

 
1st Day: Rijeka
Rijeka, the biggest Croatian port, is located at a point where the sea has made its deepest incision into the European continent. Harbour, shipping, shipbuilding and tourism activities are the most significant. Rijeka began to evolve during the 13th century, fortification Tarsatica, however, the most significant development was from 1728 onwards, when the Caroline road and railway link was completed. Rijeka has become one of the leading harbours on the Mediterranean sea. 1920 – 1924 Rijeka was made a free state by the Treaty of Rapallo between Italy and the Yugoslav kingdom. On Trsat burg there are the churches of St. George, Our Lady of Trsat and the Franciscan monastery.

2nd Day: Krk
Krk is the religious architecture complex of bell tower (18th cent.), the Cathedral of the Assumption (5th cent.), churches of St Krsevan (5th cent.), St Margaret and St Quirinus (11th cent.) and well-preserved Roman period units within the city walls; Kamplin Square, Frankopan castle, Square Tower (12th cent.), town hall (15th cent.) and a Renaissance fountain. The canons' house is the site of the Glagolitic Krk Inscription (11th cent.). The seven historical castles of the island are today its seven administrative centers. There are seven various of the Chakavian dialect of Croatian (spoken here) with seven customs, dances and costumes. The traditional way of life is linked to the sea (fishing, seafaring, shipbuilding), agriculture, stock raising, particularly sheep rearing, subtle locally produced wine which have been retained to this day accompanied by tourism industry.

3rd Day: Rab
Rab, situated on a small peninsula, surrounded by the walls and with its four impressive belfries, resembles a ship with four masts that sails. The stormy past and different historical periods have all left their traces here, in the numerous buildings of great value, which are carefully looked after. The alternation of rulers and powers also produced different architectural vestiges. The town of Rab is full of medieval buildings, built during the Venetian rule, which occurred since the 13th century. The old town walls are still visible in some places. Island of Rab with its 93.6 square km is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic. It is covered with pine forests, has beautiful sandy beaches and is well known for its mild climate which has healing influence on the illnesses of respiratory system and heart diseases. The island of Rab has approximately 10000 inhabitants who are mostly occupied in agriculture, fishing and tourism which tradition of organized tourism is more than 110 years old.

4th Day: Zadar
Zadar - is located in the middle of Dalmatia which is the most indented part of the Adriatic archipelago. At a smaller or greater distance from Zadar are the national parks Plitvice, Paklenica, Krka and Kornati, nature parks Velebit and Telascica, as well as more than 300 islands and islets. Natural beauties, numerous coves and beaches, cultural and historical monuments, restaurants and hotels offering selected national specialities make Zadar and its surroundings one of the most attractive tourist regions in Croatia. The historical part of Zadar is fascinating to all those who respect historical monuments and cultural heritage.

5th Day: Telascica
Telascica - Thanks to its exceptionally valuable plant and animal life, geological and geomorpho-logical phenomena, valuable colonies of the sea bottom and interesting archaeological heritage this area became protected in 1980 as a Nature Park. Three basic phenomena are certainly the main characteristics of the Nature Park: the unique bay of Telascica as one of the safest, the most beautiful and the largest havens on the Adriatic that includes 25 small bays and 69 km of the well-indented coastline, the cliffs of the island of Dugi otok or so-called "Stene", rising up to 200 m above the sea level and falling down vertically up to 90 m below the sea level, and finally the salt lake called "Mir" with its curative characteristics.

6th Day: Skradin
Skradin, the headquarters of Krka National Park (proclaimed in 1985 as the seventh national park in Croatia), a spacious, largely unchanged region of exceptional and multifaceted natural value, and includes one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. Skradin is one of the oldest Croatian settlements with the status of a town (2nd c. BC). Situated not far from Skradinski Buk, where the Krka river flows with tranquillity, it represents the centre of life from the early ancient times. Located between two wonderful waterfalls Skradinski Buk and Roski Slap there is Visovac Lake and the Franciscan monastery on the islet.

7th Day: Primosten
Primosten. Sailors called it a "dry point" because of the long lasting dry periods. It is set upon a little island that five centuries ago the inhabitants linked to the land by a causeway so that they could go off to the fieldsthe more easily. Surrounded by seven little islands, Primosten is a special gift from nature that leaves no one indifferent. What a parsimonious nature did not give, the industrious people created themselves, and made Primošten into one of the most attractive places to visit in the whole of the Adriatic. The stone houses, churches and narrow lanes are a perfect harmony of the past and the present.

8th Day: Split
Split is not only an urban, cultural and traffic centre of Dalmatia with road and sea connections to Dalmatia's numerous summer resorts, but it is itself often a tourist and excursionists destination. A city with a 1700-year old tradition, a variety of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, among which the well-known Palace of Diocletian, inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List, certainly occupies a special position, and the warmth and offer of a modern Mediterranean city.
